Sod Roll Specs

Central Wisconsin Sod offers rolls of sod in two different sizes:

Small rolls are 24" wide x 54" long and contain 9 square feet or 1 square yard of sod. Sod can be cut to your specifications, but a standard roll is cut at a soil thickness of ½." Each roll weighs approximately 40 pounds and is harvested 50 rolls to a pallet. That said, there is no minimum order for number of rolls, but we will not go out to harvest less than 50 rolls. We will, however, add small numbers to our schedule on a day when a larger order is being harvested. Small rolls can be picked up at the farm or delivered to your work site. Delivery charges will apply.

Big rolls are the way to go if you have a large installation project. Our big roll harvester cuts rolls 42" wide x 65' long for a total of 225 square feet or 25 square yards of sod per roll. We can cut shorter rolls upon request. The length of the roll will be less if the sod needs to be cut deeper than the standard 1/2" of soil.

The installation process for big rolls is faster and easier when compared to small rolls if you have the right equipment. These large rolls reduce the number of seams that need to heal before the sod can be put into play. Big rolls weigh between 1,700 and 2,000 pounds depending on soil depth and moisture. They require specialized installation equipment. You will need to make arrangements with an outside source if you do not have this equipment already available to you before you consider big rolls for your project.

Big rolls are most often delivered to your work site on a flatbed semi truck. During the hot months of summer, we recommend using refrigerated van trailers if your sod project is any distance away from our farm. You are responsible for both unloading the sod and the cost of delivery in either case.
